Choosing Caravan Breakdown Cover
Almost all of the well known insurance companies will offer some sort of caravan breakdown cover. Many companies offer the service in a bundle with their overall caravan insurance. The following advice on selecting good caravan breakdown cover so you can have a worry-free trip.

A common mistake amongst caravan owners is thinking that your car insurance policy will extend to your caravan. Some insurance policies may cover your caravan, others will not so it is important to check before you go anywhere with your caravan. In the event of an emergency, your insurance policy may not extend to caravan breakdown recovery and you could be forced to leave your caravan at the side of the road while your insurance company deals with your car.
Things to Consider about Caravan Breakdown Cover
Different caravan breakdown policies will offer different benefits to you as a user so it is important to consider what will be the best policy for you as a consumer before you purchase. The only way to do this is to do plenty of research before hand.
For instance, some policies may only cover you for travelling within the UK, whilst some will cover you in the EU only and others will extend much wider. Obviously, if you only use your caravan in the UK it is not worth taking out cover for the whole of Europe. Does their caravan recovery service extend this far? Recovering a caravan from say, Bulgaria or Romania and bringing it back to the UK could prove very, very expensive.
Some policies, in the event of a caravan breakdown, will cover your costs for any alternative accommodation you may have to take. Again, consider whether this would be of benefit to you. A lot of people would prefer the peace of mind to know they don’t have worry about the issue but others may see it as an unnecessary expense.
An important question to ask the insurer about the policy is whether you will be covered for home caravan breakdown. Should your caravan breakdown whilst on your driveway or in storage, does the policy cover any costs that would be involved in recovering and transporting it to a place to be repaired?
Tips & Advice
Before you begin your search for caravan breakdown cover, gather up some vital information that can be provided to your potential insurer to speed up the quote and make it more accurate. This includes information such as the make and model of the caravan, the year it was made, the car that will be used to tow it, where it will be kept when not in use and a rough idea of how many miles you travel with it per year.
